A fresh start, Shindy’s Inn Louth under new management

In a significant move for the remote township of Louth, population just 50 residents, the historic Shindy’s Inn officially reopened its doors under new management on Monday, July 7.
The beloved outback establishment is now under the passionate ownership of Marion ‘Maz’ Fraser and her dedicated team, marking a new chapter for the iconic pub.
Originally known The Royal Hotel and built in the late 1800s, Shindy’s Inn boasts a rich and resilient history. It served as a vital river hub for Cobb & Co coaches and remarkably survived a fire in 1885. Though a larger blaze in 1889 devastated much of Louth, the current Shindy’s Inn, rebuilt in 1956, once again rose from the ashes.
The Inn also holds a place on the famous ‘Pub Route’ for outback adventurers.
For many, Shindy’s Inn holds many happy memories from those days, under the then owners John and Patsy Duncan.
Despite the passage of time, the pub retains its unique charm, with an eclectic mix of memorabilia adorning its ceilings and walls, and robust timber furniture that speaks of yesteryear’s craftsmanship, proving that some things never change.
Owner Maz Fraser shared her vision for the Inn, drawing on years of hospitality experience.
“We thought we would come to Louth and make something more of this place,” she explained.
“I put an offer in with Kathy Barnes, the former owner, and we bought it. My husband Arch Fraser was really supportive.”
