‘A’ Day Bowls unites community for a good cause

The ‘A’ Day Bowls event is one of the most popular fixtures on the Bourke Bowling Club calendar.

‘A’ Day Bowls is on this Saturday, with all proceeds going towards the Blue Robinson Foundation.

Organiser Victor Bartley is passionate about both the charitable purpose of the event, and the opportunity for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal to share their love of the sport and enjoy the opportunity to have a fun day out on the greens together.

“‘A’ Day Bowls has been running since 2004 and it was started by myself, Rodney Edwards, and Rolly Frail to raise funds for charitable organisations,” Victor said.

“The idea behind it was also to get Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal bowlers playing together, not against each other but with each other, in mixed teams.

“The teams are played in triples, with one Aboriginal or two Aboriginal players in each team, or vice versa, and we encourage the teams to be mixed with men and women if possible. […]
