2026 Bourke Rodeo postponed

The Back O’Bourke Stampede will move to a biennial format, with organisers confirming the event will now be staged every second year.
The decision means there will be no Stampede Rodeo in 2026, with the next event planned for 2027.
The Back O’Bourke Stampede Committee said the change had not been made lightly, but would provide more time for planning, fundraising and recruiting the volunteers needed to deliver the event.
As a volunteer-run organisation, the committee relies heavily on the contribution of local people, sponsors and supporters. Considerable work takes place behind the scenes before competitors enter the arena, including securing funding, coordinating entertainment, arranging infrastructure and managing the many practical requirements involved in staging a major rodeo.
Organisers believe moving to an every-second-year schedule will help make the Stampede stronger and more sustainable, while protecting its future as an important event for Bourke and the wider region.
The announcement has prompted supportive messages from people who attended the 2025 Stampede.
On Facebook, Urban Dust Hat Co described last year’s rodeo as one of its “absolute highlights of 2025”, praising the organisers, merchandise, music, fireworks and the atmosphere created by those who attended.
“We had the best time and cannot wait to be back in 2027,” the business said.
The response reflects the broader appeal of the Stampede, which brings competitors, visitors, businesses and residents together for a celebration of rodeo action, entertainment and community spirit.
While attention now turns towards planning for 2027, the committee is also seeking new members to help shape the event’s future.
People do not need previous rodeo or event-management experience to become involved. Anyone passionate about supporting the Bourke community and willing to contribute their ideas or time is encouraged to express their interest.
