Local Anglican Bishop Mark Calder made his first visit to Bourke last week and took the opportunity to meet with local parishioners, taste some of Bourke’s legendary pies at Morrall’s Bakery and take in some of the local history of the town.
Bishop Calder was installed in his role covering the Bathurst Diocese on November 23 last year.
He was joined on his trip to Bourke by Reverend Canon Grahame Yager from Gilgandra, who is a regular to the Bourke Anglican Church.
Bishop Calder described the landscape on the long drive from Bathurst as ‘beautifully and overwhelmingly vast’.
“The roads are so straight, and you certainly know you’re in the bush when your GPS says your next turn is 168 kilometres away,” Bishop Calder said.
