Locally owned galloper Sons of Bourke had a big win in Dubbo last Friday, coming from last place on a heavy Dubbo track, to beat a good field in the 1,020 metres Aquawest Benchmark 66 Handicap.

From last approaching the home turn, Sons of Bourke (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $7.50) came home with a big finish to win the from Skillet (Adrian Layt, $11) and La La Loopsy (Reece Jones, $7.50).

Trained by Clint Lundholm, Sons of Bourke has a good record at the Dubbo track with 3 of 5 career wins, plus 7 placings there. Other wins were at Muswellbrook as a two-year old in 2016, and at Mendooran in 2018.

However, Sons of Bourke had previously not been effective on wet surfaces having been unplaced at all 9 starts on soft to heavy going. But the six-year-old gelding turned that around with an outstanding win on a rain-affected track at Dubbo on Friday.

Owned by Bourke partners Mark Spencer, Kurt Dickson, Frank Hollman and Glen Knight, Sons of Bourke now has prizemoney earnings of over $125,000.

2WEB racing identity Tim Moses said Sit was a great win as Sons of Bourke came from last to rattle down the outside and storm home by a long neck.

“I was going to bet on the horse,” Tim said, “but I didn’t and now I’m kicking myself!”
