After missing last season’s tourism season, and a delayed start this year due to COVID-19, there is a lot of excitement around the re-launch of the PV Jandra.

The historic paddleboat has had an “out-of-water survey”, some plus repairs and maintenance, and is likely to be taking tourists up and down the Darling River next week with a brand-new captain at the helm.

Manager of Corporate Services Leonie Brown said the number of visitors to Bourke was steadily increasing and council was keen to have the boat in action as one of the town’s major drawcards.

“We are excited to welcome Alan Bartsch to the helm this week as the new captain of the Jandra. He is familiarising himself with the boat and the river, and Council’s Engineering Technical Officer Matthew McCorkle is induction Alan into the operations of the PV Jandra and the hazards of the river,” Mrs Brown said.
