With agricultural events, shows and field days cancelled across the region and the nation due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Outback Radio 2WEB had to find another way to highlight the businesses and organisations that make our rural communities thrive – a on-air “virtual field day”.

Hosted by breakfast announcer David Sharp and news director Rod Corfe on Saturday morning, with input from racing commentator Tim Moses, the Virtual Field Day was a four hour broadcast of interviews from a range of organisations and businesses that would normally be spruiking their wares from the stands.

The on-air event aimed to bring the flavour of a traditional field day and local shows to life by promoting agricultural industries and activities.

Mr Sharp said the radio station was able to donate the airtime to support agricultural industries, farmers and community organisations which have been disadvantaged by the mass cancellation of local shows and field days this year.

Outback Radio 2WEB Manager Wayne Harrison said he was delighted with the positive energy that was put into the broadcast on Saturday.
