Work on the Bourke War Memorial Swimming Pool renovation has begun, with a team of contractors on site to remove and replace part of the old pool and install a new filtration system.
The $2.3 million refurbishment of the existing pool will include new high-tech filtration systems, water saving measures and new surfacing of the pool interior.
Bourke Shire Council Environmental Services Manager Dwayne Willoughby said works were progressing well and everything was on track for completion in time for re-opening the pool complex later in the year, with a target date of November 2020.
“The contractors have cut the concrete top off the 50 metres pool and that concrete concourse was then lifted up and removed,” he said.
“Excavation works will continue to take away the old concrete and we are then left with half of a pool shell in the ground.
