There is still plenty of opportunity in Bourke for people willing to give it a go, according to one young family now calling Bourke home.
Wes and Tegan Roberts, with their toddler Hank, have found success and a sense of belonging since moving to Bourke four years ago.
Wes is well known around the town as a diesel mechanic with his business Full Diesel Maintenance.
Tegan is also well known in Bourke - as well as running the administration side of the business, she works in the health field and is a qualified personal trainer and massage therapist.
Wes said he fell in love with Bourke during his apprenticeship in the years from 2000 to 2004 with an earthmoving company doing development work around the Shire.
He grew up in Goondiwindi, and was based there, but would often be on site in Bourke. He made friends and contacts and when he finished up with the company, he continued coming to the area to fix irrigation pumps and machinery.
