Local girl Emma Simmons has taken on a fund-raising challenge to raise money for the Starlight Foundation and swim the equivalent of the English Channel in the process.

Twelve-year-old Emma is a member of the Bourke Amateur Swimming Club and decided to take part in the Starlight Super Swim, which raises funds for children in hospital.

For Emma, the fundraising is personal. Mum Mel said Emma decided on the charity swim after watching her cousin go through multiple medical procedures in hospital in Sydney.
