Bourke Young Citizen of the Year award winner is a young man whose contributions have made a big difference to the lives of others in the Bourke community.
Riley Parnaby was named our Young Citizen of the Year for his tireless voluntary efforts, his positive attitude and for the example he sets for other young people in the Bourke Shire.
At the Australia Day ceremony at the Bourke Pool on Sunday, Mayor Hollman said Riley was respected by his peers and is seen a role model and leader who participated enthusiastically in all aspects of school life.
The award took Riley completely by surprise.
“I thought I was there just to help out at the event and have a good Australia Day,” Riley said.
“I was so surprised when they called my name out and I looked at mum because I thought she must have nominated me, but she didn’t.
“I am very proud to have won the award and I love helping out people in the community.
