League legends inspire local kids

Bourke and Brewarrina’s young people had a big dose of inspiration from their sporting heroes last week when NRL legends Brad Fittler, Nathan Blacklock and Mark O’Meley toured the region.

The players joined NRL Rugby Sevens founder Ronny Gibbs and NRL Program of Excellence leader Kristian Heffernan on the road trip, meeting school children in Bourke, Brewarrina and Walgett to talk about league and living a life of purpose.

The message they were bringing with them was loud and clear – what is required to achieve excellence on the sports ground is the same as what it takes to achieve excellence and happiness off the field.

“We came out here after a request from Paul Quigg at the Central North Police District who organised it with Kristian Heffernan,” Brad explained.
