Bourke gets a boost from Cabinet visit

All rooms, at every motel, caravan park and hotel were full on Sunday 24th November 2019 as one of the biggest entourages to ever visit Bourke rolled into town.

The Community Cabinet meeting attracted more than 100 people – Ministers, government staffers, MPs, media and advisers who had to jostle for space on Sunday night.

For 48 hours, Bourke was on every news bulletin across the state and the national audience of broadcaster Alan Jones’ three million listeners.

This mini economic boom was shared among hospitality providers, with almost everyone in the industry saying they had a much-needed boost, after a tough season.

If the rest of Australia didn’t know what was on offer in Bourke before Alan Jones’ broadcast from the Bourke Bowling Club, they certainly did by last Thursday. Alan stayed at Kidman’s Camp during his visit and was so impressed he spruiked the caravan park’s charms again on Thursday morning when he talked to owner Peter Simmonds on air.

“He’s very modest and he won’t say much so I’ll tell you about Peter,” Mr Jones told his listeners.
