Historic Cabinet meeting in Bourke

“We might be Back O’Bourke” declared Gladys Berejiklian on Monday “but you can be assured that Bourke is front of mind!”

With these words the NSW Premier won the hearts and applause of a large audience at Bourke on Monday.

History was made in Bourke this week when the Premier, Deputy Premier and the entire NSW ministry along with a large entourage of ministerial staff and media arrived in town on Sunday night.

It was the first time in NSW parliamentary history that Cabinet had been held in such a remote location.

As a result, the government announced more money for water security, with a new bore and pipeline fully funded, promises to look at ways to support struggling businesses, help for parents of pre-school age children and a commitment to tackle the issue of wild dogs.

With the drought now a tense and divisive political issue, the strategy to tour the region and meet members of the community and council face to face was a resounding success.
