Three former mayors are urging the Bourke Shire Council to put a bigger effort into building a new weir to secure water for the town’s future.
Trevor Randall, Wally Mitchell and Andrew Lewis have penned a letter to the Council calling on it to prioritise the construction of a weir upstream of town at a location known as BU8.
The former mayors are also urging council to push governments at a federal and state level to construct diversion infrastructure or build more dams in the upper reaches of the Darling River.
