Roy mixes with the locals

As the state member for NSW’s largest electorate, Roy Butler puts a lot of rubber on the road.
Roy’s home base is in Mendooran and his parliamentary office in Macquarie Street in Sydney, but his working office is the interior of his car. Like his predecessors, Roy covers thousands of kilometres weekly.
He said his aim is to get to every community and village in the electorate – no small feat considering Barwon covers 45% of the state. Last week, he was in Bourke, enjoying a night at the Port of Bourke Hotel and meeting with anyone who wanted to have a yarn.
“Tell me if I’ve got it wrong but the way I see this role is having a good understanding of the electorate by meeting and talking to people face to face,” Roy said.
