With less than three weeks until the Enngonia races on September 21, the entire community is pitching in to make sure the day is a huge success.
To make sure the crowds turn out, and to help people struggling in the drought, local graziers have sponsored the race meeting and declared free entry for the entire event.
There will also be free bus transport from Frank’s BP Service Station at 11am and from Morrall’s Bakery at 11.30am.
The Enngonia Races is a six-card event with plenty of action on and off the track, including the Calcutta on the day, Fashions on the Field and plenty of community spirit.
Publicity Officer Richard Ridge said the event is a chance for the Enngonia community to put their work down for the day, take a breather and have some much-needed enjoyment.
“It’s going to be a terrific day,” Richard said.
“As well as the races, which are a sort of State of Origin affair with Queensland horses vying for honours with NSW rides, there’s plenty of fun for families, for the kids, for punters and just about everyone in between.
“We have live music after the races, a bar and food and we are grateful to Bourke Rotary, Bourke Steel and Hire, Landmark, Don McDonald, the Bourke Bowling Club and all our supporters for getting behind the races again this year.
“We really wanted to make sure everyone in the community had the opportunity to attend so that’s why entry is free, and we are really appreciative of the sponsorship from our local graziers for that.
“We have great sponsors every year who step up to make sure the event is a success and I want to thank each and every one of them once again.
“We’re hoping it’s going to be a great day and whether you’re a local or a visitor, we invite you to head to the Enngonia racetrack for what promises to be a fantastic community event – and maybe you might even win on the horses,” Richard said.
