By the summer of 2020, Bourke will have a sparkling new 50 metre state-of-the art Olympic swimming pool at the War Memorial Complex.

The $1.8 million refurbishment of the existing pool will include high tech filtration systems, water saving measures and new surfacing of the pool interior.

Council Environmental Manager Dwayne Willoughby said that work will begin in February and be completed by the start of the summer season late next year.

“We had the architect and the hydraulic engineer here last week going over the site and taking measurements and going over the detail,” Dwayne said.

“Plans are well under way now. They’ll come back with the scoping report and the design and that should be done in the next four to six weeks.

“We’re hoping to get that out to tender in about two to three months’ time.

“It’s a full refurbish of the pool, with new lining, new wet decks, an accessibility ramp for people in wheelchairs and for elderly people to be able to enter the pool more safely.
