Well known Bourke resident Bob (Robert Brian) Howarth passed away on 13th June 2019 and was farewelled at a touching funeral service at Bourke’s Holy Innocents Anglican Church last Friday.

Following is an edited transcript of the eulogy given by Bob’s son Stephen Howarth:

I am honoured to be standing here today to celebrate the life of my Dad and to reflect on Dad’s journey over the past 74 years.

On behalf of Mum – Yvonne Howarth, my sisters Narelle and Kerrie-Anne and I, we would like to thank you for your love and prayers at this very sad time in our lives. To all that have travelled to be here today, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I would like to acknowledge my elders past and present, in particular my mother Yvonne, my sisters (Narelle and Kerrie-Anne), my Aunties and Uncles, and my partner Haylene.

I also would like to acknowledge the country of the Gurnu, Barabindja and Budjiti in the north, Murrawarri and Ngemba in the east and the Nygampaa to the south.

I also want to acknowledge my cousins Barry “Nooka” Harris, Greg Cross and Ray Harris who are here to say farewell to their Uncle.

Thank you for honouring Dad today, as you know, he was a cardigan and flanno man.

I have so many fond memories of Dad, sad ones as well, but today I am going to share some good memories that I will cherish forever.
