Local Crime Manager Detective Inspector Rod Grant is moving on after more than three years based in Bourke.

Detective Inspector Grant has been appointed to the role of Coordinator of the Child Abuse Squad for South West Sydney and the Illawarra.

Rod has seen big changes in policing since his arrival in Bourke in April 2016, including a major police restructure in the bush.

The Darling River Local Area Command was restructured to the Central North Policing District, taking over the Castlereagh Command and covering 13 sectors.

Detective Inspector Grant cites the partnership work with other government and non-government agencies and the subsequent reduction in most crime categories as the most rewarding aspect of his time in Bourke.

“Seeing those reductions in crime statistics as a result of the way we work in the community with the other agencies has been by far the professional highlight of my time here,” Detective Inspector Grant said.

“There’s been a 40 per cent reduction in domestic violence in our district, reductions in all other forms of violent crime and in Walgett we’ve seen a 50 per cent reduction in youth crime.

“The success has been as a result of police working in partnerships with organisations like Maranguka, Birrang, CatholicCare and other non-government agencies.

“In fact, we’ve been so successful at making that work here that police from other states and around NSW have come to see what we’re doing.
