Anzac Day plans for Bourke and Brewarrina

Two unexpected events have meant this year’s ANZAC Day ceremonies have had to be organised ‘on the fly’ in some cases.

But in true outback tradition, local communities are expected to turn out in big numbers to commemorate what is one of Australia’s most significant events.

Bourke will again hold its ANZAC Day ceremony in Central Park, with ceremonies also being held across the Shire.

General Manager Ross Earl said the ANZAC Day Service is of great significance to Bourke and an important occasion to honour those people from the district who took part in the Great War, and all theatres of conflict since.

The day begins on April 25th with a Dawn Service at 6am. Attendees should assemble no later than 5.50am for what is always a moving tribute to fallen diggers.

The main ANZAC Day Service begins at 11am and those who intend to march should congregate at Diggers on the Darling by 10.30am.

Residents are reminded there will be changed traffic conditions along Richard and Oxley Street while the march is in progress.

One difference at Bourke this year will be the absence of RSL Sub Branch President Victor Bartley, who is in Dubbo hospital recovering from heart surgery.

“ANZAC Day is always a significant occasion where we honour those who served,” Victor said.
