Bourke’s social scene will be a little quieter when the popular gift shop and café Little Birdy closes its doors after Christmas.
Little Birdy has been a thriving hub for the Bourke community with Saturday morning catch-ups one of the highlights of the weekend. The monthly markets have also been a big drawcard as well as tapas nights during the cooler months — and of course, the opportunity to shop in the gift store.
Owner Berdine Warne has had the business on the market since January after she and her family relocated to Armidale but has been unable to secure a definite buyer.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from people but I think the timing has just been wrong because of the drought,” she said.
“People are doing it a bit tough so I think that’s why we haven’t been able to find a buyer.
