Hero still calls Bourke home

Former Bourke resident Tim Bunyan doesn’t wear a cape or leap from tall buildings, but there’s no doubt he is something of a superhero.

Truck driver Tim was the recipient of Australia’s highest civilian award for bravery, after saving the life of a fellow truckie in a fiery crash near Charleville in 2014.

Tim was driving one of his regular routes to Charleville when he pulled the driver from the burning B-double truck that had crashed off the Angellala Creek Bridge on the Mitchell Highway, carrying more than 52 tonnes of the highly explosive chemical ammonium nitrate.
