Despite its small size and remoteness, Bourke has a tradition of citizens achieving great things far beyond the levee banks.

Trevor Demmery is one such citizen.

Trevor was last month awarded the Queen’s Medal for services to the corrections system, police and the aboriginal community.

Trevor is carrying on a long tradition in his family.

His grandfather was the legendary Aboriginal tracker Frank Williams, who was a recipient of the equivalent medal in his era — the King’s Medal.

Trevor’s cousin is renowned former Bourke Police Officer Michael Williams. Together, his family claims almost 80 years of service to Bourke police and more broadly to the application of justice.
