On a borrowed horse and with just a few days’ notice that he was to compete, Bourke’s Clay Simmonds and two other young riders won first place at an international show-jumping championship in China at the weekend.
The result is an extraordinary achievement for Clay and his team mates, Conor Reed and Amelia Douglass.
Clay’s performance at the FEI Nations Cup in Beijing was the stand-out of the competition, jumping a clear round clear to beat the Chinese team by 34 faults.
As well as the outstanding performance of the team, Clay also took out second place in the Individual Grand Prix. Read more in the printed edition of the Western Herald.
