What started out as a freezing cold day at Algy Friend Oval in Walgett on Saturday, only got colder. The wind didn’t help anyone, it rained, and almost snowed honestly.

But that didn’t stop the Bourke Ewes from taking the field against the Walgett Ewes. Walgett were the team to beat in the women’s comp. They are the top of the table, high and mighty team of our competition. And they showed everyone why.

Besides the horrible conditions, Walgett put on a superb show for Ladies Day, and everyone enjoyed the music on the oval and the general atmosphere of the day, so well done Walgett.

Lisa Wade was captain for the day, steering us in the right direction and being nice and loud on the field. Although Walgett had a full team of subs on the bench, and Bourke only four, we still stuck it to them and made a few forced errors. Some of these errors were made off the back of whopping kicks from Jaelen Hurst, and the quick feet of Claire Hand.

Walgett found the try line constantly, and we didn’t give up easily. Lilly Hand decided to head for the try line and was given a whistle and an arm up, finally putting a try on the board for Bourke. This was also Lil’s first try of the season! Well done, Lil!
