Shitbox Rally blows into Bourke

The tongue-in-cheek named ‘Shitbox’ Rally, traditionally meaning a cheap and not-so perfect car, may be a funny name but their cause is very serious stuff.
The rally is all for raising funds for cancer research and on Saturday 500 drivers and co-drivers left Canberra for a rally over 3,600 kilometres – over many unsealed roads, to Townsville in north Queensland.
Founder and CEO of Box Rallies James Freeman OAM said that all teams need to fundraise throughout the year before the rally.
“And one hundred percent of the funds go to the Cancer Council to fund some of the best cancer research in Australia” Mr Freeman explained.
“In this particular rally, we have raised approximately 2.2 million dollars, and we will probably square up to reach 2.4 million dollars by the end of the rally.
“Overall, we are close to about 55 million dollars in the sixteen years we have been running”, Mr Freeman said.
“Shitbox Rally is not a race, but a reward for fundraising efforts and a chance to explore Australia. […]
