Reviving the Ngemba language in Brewarrina

Last Wednesday, the Ngurra-Gu workshop took place at the Brewarrina Community Centre, marking a significant step in reviving the Ngemba language.

Melissa Kirby, the Director of First Linguists, in collaboration with the NSW Aboriginal Language Trust and the Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Land Council, said it was an initiative to reawaken the local traditional language.

“We are looking to inspire enthusiasm for the rich culture embedded in the landscape – one with words and meanings distinct from English, and we send our thanks to the community for their participation,” Ms Kirby said. […]
