Plenty of applicants for Captain of the Jandra

A unique job opportunity is available in Bourke – Captain of the Jandra – and thanks to social media, there are plenty of applicants.

Last week, Mel Milgate, Economic Development Manager for the Bourke Shire Council advertised on social media for a captain for the paddleboat Jandra and has been blown away by the response.

“The Jandra is the number one tourist attraction in Bourke and after I posted on social media, we’ve had over 39,000 post engagements,” Ms Milgate said.

“People shared it to the point where ABC picked it up and then 2GB. I even had a stint on tv show, Sunrise who did a cross asking about the captain’s role. If I’ve got a chance to talk on primetime television, I’m going to talk all things Bourke, so I ran with it,” she said.

As a result of the publicity, the search for a captain for the Jandra may be over.

“I think we may have a captain for the Jandra just because of one little post and people being generous enough to either take the time to share it or like it,” Ms Millgate said. […]
