Bourke High School

In weeks 6 and 7, Bourke High school had the privilege of hosting Juliann from JSR Training as part of the work readiness and mentoring program generously funded by CatholicCare.

The initiative aims to provide support for the young ladies in Bourke, and its recent implementation in Wilcannia has already demonstrated positive outcomes for the young people in that area

During the two-week program, Juliann engaged with 19 of our female students. For the senior girls, a specialised 2-hour training session was conducted, tailored to meet the unique requirements of securing employment in the beauty and hairdressing industry, as well as cafe and retail environments.

Simultaneously, wellbeing sessions were provided for our junior students, offering them a pampering experience while teaching valuable knowledge about hair hygiene.

A key component of the program was the mentoring sessions, where our girls had the opportunity to receive guidance in developing confidence, communication, and presentation skills essential for future employment.

These sessions also included personalised hair and beauty treatments for our students.

Not all our wonderful students were photographed and there were even a couple that missed out on this opportunity but there will be another chance to see Juliann again early next year during her visit!

Thank you to Catholic Care Wilcannia Forbes for their funding support and to Juliann from JSR Training for her invaluable contributions.

Thank you to Kirsten for supporting the girls and checking in after their session.

The program has proven to be highly successful, and we eagerly anticipate Juliann’s return in early 2024 to continue empowering our female students through this impactful initiative.
