Opportunities for the youth of Brewarrina
Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Lands Council (Bre LALC) has received a $50,000 grant from the Department of Communities and Justice to launch an innovative new program for school leavers.
The ‘Tomorrow’s CEO’ program aims to give young people in Brewarrina the skills they need to transition from high school into the workforce.
Rather than offering training to just a few graduates, the ‘Tomorrow’s CEO’ approach is open to all school leavers, offering three hours paid work where participants learn the skills required to find employment.
CEO of the Bre LALC, John Reidy, said the program would reach out to all high school students in the community with a ‘collective outcome’.
“Instead of creating an opportunity that may create a full-time job, empowering one individual, this program uses equivalent funding to achieve a more holistic outcome,” he said.
“It came about after staff at the Bre LALC attended a school leaver expo. We reviewed the current community approach to youth development after graduation. […]
