Minister promises to fix Walgett’s water problems
NSW’s new Minister for Water, Rose Jackson, met with the Walgett community last week and promised that fixing Walgett’s drinking water infrastructure was a top priority.
On Friday, Ms Jackson flew to Walgett to see and hear firsthand what the issues were - and to get a taste of Walgett’s tap water for herself.
The verdict?
“I can definitely understand why the Walgett community wants action on their water supply and why they have asked for the filtration system to be activated,” she said.
“The taste of the bore water was definitely unpleasant, and we are going to make sure that something is done about it.
“It’s not good enough for this community to have bore water when there is a river water treatment plant already here (in Walgett) but not operational.
