Inspector Day speaks out on youth crime in rural areas

In the wake of new laws aimed at curbing repeated youth offences in rural areas, the officer-in-charge of Walgett Police Station has spoken about the need for various strategies to deal with the issue.

Inspector Kevin Day of Walgett said that youth crime is an issue in the Central North Police District and that police have been working on several preventative measures to try to combat the issue.

“The legislative changes appear to be a crucial step towards enhancing community safety and ensuring that repeat offenders are scrutinised more thoroughly before being granted bail,” Inspector Day said.

“New measure are a necessity where crime rates have remained stubbornly high.” […]
