For Australian country music singer songwriter Colin Buchanan, life might have taken a very different path if it wasn’t for a yearlong experience in Bourke.

Colin credits those twelve months in Bourke as life-changing – he came to town as a schoolteacher, and left knowing music was going to be central to the rest of his life.

And next Wednesday evening (28th October), Colin returns to Bourke to perform outdoors at the Bourke O’Bourke Exhibition Centre from 7.30pm – a concert call “Songs and Stories”.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit around the campfire under the stars with Colin Buchanan and hear his stories and sing along with his songs.

And it means that Colin gets the chance to rekindle his love affair with the ‘Back O’Bourke’.

“There are experiences in life that leave you forever changed and my experience of Bourke when I arrived with my wife in 1988 was one of those,” he said.

“We packed up the old, gold Ford Fairlane and headed out to Cornerstone at Pera Bore on the Wanaaring Road and that transformed us.

“We loved what Cornerstone had going on there, living in the desert, working on the farm, teaching at the Pera Bore school and writing songs.

“Song writing wasn’t part of the plan, and I didn’t go to the Christian community to become a singer-songwriter, but that was the beginning of my music career, and I came away as a songwriter.

Join Colin Buchanan live in concert at the Back O’Bourke ‘Songs & Stories’ Concert next Wednesday 28th October from 7.30pm. Tickets are available at the Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre at just $25 each.
