How to cop a free coffee!

People in Bourke are invited to meet with local police officers to chat about community issues and score a free coffee into the bargain.

The friendly, casual setting at the Old Darling Store was the meeting place for the first “Coffee with a Cop” gathering on Tuesday, April 2.

Officer in Charge of the Bourke Police Station, Inspector Peter Walton, said the program was all about community engagement.

“Coffee with a Cop is a police community engagement initiative which gives an opportunity for members of the community to raise issues and concerns with police in an open forum whilst enjoying a cuppa,” Inspector Walton said. “It’s been around for a few years now and we decided to bring it back to Bourke.”

The concept originated in Hawthorne, California in 2011 and has since spread to various communities across the United States and internationally. […]
