Great Aussie Road Trip — new series to feature Bourke, Bre, Walgett and the Ridge
Bourke, Brewarrina, Walgett and Lightning Ridge were all given starring roles last week when the Great Aussie Road Trip television crew passed through, casting a spotlight on the NSW Outback for next year’s series.
Host of the popular series, Chris Parsons, described the trip along the Kamilaroi Highway as “an absolute beauty.”
Starting at Willow Tree and ending up two weeks later in Bourke, Mr Parsons and his crew got to experience all the local highlights along the way.
“What do we see along the way? What didn’t we see? Absolutely jaw dropping, magnificent landscapes, incredible outback towns, and the people and the characters we met in them - you feel more Australian just being there and experiencing it,” Mr Parsons said.
Lightning Ridge was the first destination and the words, “compelling, quirky, different and eccentric” were used as a description of this unique area by the Great Aussie Road Trip team.
While in town, the crew filmed segments at the Australian Opal Centre and spent time with a couple of local icons, the artist John Murray and Outback Opal Hunter Pete Cooke.
John Murray said he had been contacted in the weeks before the film crew arrived and had met up with them on a Sunday afternoon.
“They were a professional crew, and Chris was a dynamic interviewer. He’s done a few different shows, and was very easy to talk to, as though you’ve known him forever,” Mr Murray said.
“He is going to make our region look and sound really good and I think the presentation of that show will really showcase a lot of our amazing places.”
At the end of the day, the Great Aussie Road Trip team took a well-earned dip in the artesian bore baths. […]
