Ladies and gentlemen, introducing a new literary star of the future - Gabriel Siemer from the Bourke – Walgett School of Distance Education.

Nine-year-old Gabriel won a gold medal in the Student Literary Awards for his entry – for a poem called ‘Carnival for the Dead’.

Gabriel is in Year 3 and is already a seasoned writer, winning a similar competition when he was in Year One and proving that distance is no barrier to education or outstanding achievement.

Principal of the Distance Education School, Wendy Hay, said she was impressed but not surprised that Gabriel took out a gold medal in the prestigious award, with the winners announced at an event at the State Library last week.
