While some kids can’t get enough of sport, Dusty Cross, Willow Cross, Iko Rose, Laylah Tiffen, and Peyton Cohen decided they wanted to try something different in their spare time.

For many people, the idea of a large audience listening to you on the radio can be daunting, but these young student volunteers are proud to know their parents and friends are tuning in.

Teaching young people skills in radio is an integral part of Outback Radio 2WEB and many of the current students are from St Ignatius School.

Principal, Una Taylor, says the radio training enhances the numeracy and literacy skills of the student volunteers, giving them a head start at boarding school, and later in life when seeking employment.

‘The training program at 2WEB definitely builds self-confidence and public speaking skills,” Mrs Taylor said.
