Fun and games at Bre’s Youth Week

Brewarrina was the place to be last week – and it was all about having fun and celebrating Youth Week.

The events were hosted by the Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Lands Council in partnership with Brewarrina Shire Council and other organisations supporting some of the events.

In a week of fun, kids were given the chance to play commandos, go to the movies, take part in a Colour Run, go fishing for carp and get into some rugby union action as well.

CEO of Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Land Council, John Reidy, said the kids turned up with enthusiasm and anticipation for every event and enjoyed a week dedicated to making sure they were entertained.

“We kicked off with a fun and games commando carnival on Tuesday, where the kids had to climb over and under things and get through obstacles - and they had an absolute blast,” Mr Reidy said.

“They got the chance to be young superheroes in our Commando Challenge. Participants had to navigate an obstacle course full of distractions including a hose down by our local firies.

“Along the way they had to multi-task navigating various challenges and doing tasks under duress.

“We called them superheroes because one of the challenges was the army hang where they had to hang on to the goal posts for as long as they could, and the winners received school prize packs and Telstra data packs for their impressive efforts.

“That was followed by a footy carnival where we had members of the NSW Rugby Union Development Team taking the kids through some drills and games. {…]
