Frank Kerr is Bourke Sportsperson of the Year
Although he does not profess any major athletic achievement, Frank Kerr is now the 2024 Bourke Sportsperson of the Year.
Frank’s special interest is the ‘Sport of Kings’ and he has held the position of President of the Back O’Bourke Picnic Race Club since 2016.
In this role, Frank has led the club to success and has been a great advocate for the club attending meetings and conferences throughout NSW each year.
Frank has also attended most of the race meetings in Western NSW, as well as attending Country Championships meetings, to expand his contacts and knowledge for the betterment of the Bourke Picnic Race Club.
He has also taken on the role of Track Curator of the Bourke racetrack at the J B Renshaw complex. In the lead up to the Bourke Picnic Race Meeting, Frank spends many hours getting the track up to the required standard. With racing stewards cancelling race meetings in the last 12 months due to track safety issues, it has been Frank’s care and attention to detail that has seen the Bourke Picnic Races proceed without any cancellations.
Frank has also been instrumental in the upgrading of facilities at the JB Renshaw complex at Bourke including the installation of a sand ring and stables. There is no job too big or too small for Frank and the Picnic Race Club, and the community are fortunate to have a dedicated and hardworking President.
Frank has also been involved in the Bourke Historic Vehicle Club, as Vice President, the Bourke P&A Show Committee for over 20 years including as Vice President and Ring Master), Back O’Bourke Stampede, Bourke Garden Club, Bourke Pony Club (20 years’ service and a qualified trainer), and Bourke Pistol Club.
Franks also supports young members of the community to achieve their sporting goals. He recently chaperoned a high school student to race meetings in the district to allow him to work towards achieving his Strapper’s Licence.
Frank is a successful business owner with a generous heart. He regularly assists sporting events with a financial contribution. Frank never seeks personal recognition and always reflects on the team effort of the organisations he serves.
