Former Brewarrina manis going PLACES

Last October, a new national non-profit organisation was launched to serve communities, and a local leader from Brewarrina has just taken the helm.

Partnerships for Local Action and Community Empowerment (PLACE) was launched in Melbourne by Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth.

The aim of the new venture is to address the systemic disadvantage of Aboriginal people.

Mr Chalmers said at the time that addressing systemic disadvantage was a passion of the Federal government because too many kids in communities are trapped in the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage.

A place-based approach involves the partnering of governments and communities to develop long-term and collaborative solutions to social issues, tailored to the individual community’s needs.

Fast forward four months and Partnerships for Local Action and Community Empowerment has announced its inaugural Board of Directors, with a former Bre resident named as Chairperson. […]
