Final stretch of Wanaaring Road to be sealed

The last 9.4 kilometres of Bourke-Milparinka Road, between Bourke and Wanaaring, will be completed thanks to a $2.818 million Australian Government grant.
Labor Senator for New South Wales Deb O’Neill praised Bourke Shire Council for its successful application under the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.
“Bourke Shire Council put forward a bid for federal grant money to upgrade the final nine kilometres of the Bourke-Milparinka Road between Bourke and Wanaaring, and they have been successful in getting $2.818 million to go to the project,” Senator O’Neill said.
The upgrade will provide travel reliability on this crucial regional route, improving safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
“This will ensure year-round access for all the locals who need to use it, and also the people who get out there and discover how beautiful the region is,” Ms O’Neill said. “Tourists want to get out on all these roads and just experience this amazing country we call home.”
Mayor of Bourke Shire, Councillor Lachlan Ford, said the announcement marked a major milestone in a long-running project for the region.
“The sealing of the entire length of Wanaaring Road has been part of Council’s strategic vision and included in Council’s top three priorities for grant funding and completion since 2017 when Council received its first tranche of funding for this important road project,” Cr Ford said. […]
