Bourke Ewes Rugby Report

The Bourke Ewes took on the Cobar Bactrians in round 6 of the Western Plains Rugby Union competition at Bourke’s Davidson Oval on Saturday.

The game started with Cobar kicking off to our girls looking into the sun.

Cobar showed some holes in their defence and an early try was scored by Ella Henson. Unfortunately, Cobar kept us out for the rest of the quarter.

After a chat with the coaches, the girls came back on for the second quarter reminded of their game plan.

Alana Coxhead managed to break through and find the try line. Jodie Sontag was also able to find a hole and scored right on the buzzer, bringing the half-time score to 15-0.

The third quarter saw some great footy from both teams.

After a kick across field, Daniella Bona dived on the ball to add another 5 points to the scoreboard. This was quickly backed up by a break from our player/coach Sophie Bowden scoring another.

The fourth quarter had some great defence from both teams, but Isabella Wilson and Alana Coxhead had even better attack, leading to Alana scoring another try and bringing the final score to 30-0.

Three points went to Alana Coxhead, two went to Chelsea Simmonds and one went to Ella Henson. This week, our players player went to Chelsea Simmonds who received $250 and a new work shirt thanks to Scott McAdam Plumbing.

A big thanks to both Sophie and Jarryd for coaching us and to Cobar for making the trip up with limited numbers.

We look forward to travelling to Walgett next weekend.
