Dick Colless Scholarship benefits Walgett Shire
Walgett Shire Council has announced the 2024 recipients of the annual Dick Colless Scholarship, awarded in memory of former Deputy Mayor, Dick Colless.
Councillor Colless was a community focused man with a passion for young people. The Scholarship was created to honour his memory after he was tragically killed in a farm accident in 2012.
This year, his granddaughter Clancy Barry was among those to receive a contribution towards her studies.
Worth up to $2,500, the scholarships are awarded to students from the Walgett Shire who are entering their second or a subsequent year of study at a recognised tertiary institution or at TAFE.
The full amount of the scholarship is $10,000 and the judges agreed to share the scholarship in equal amounts amongst the recipients totalling $1428 each.
Recipients were Beatrice Thwaits who is studying a Bachelor of Environmental Sciences, Erin Tym (Certificate III in Electrotechnology), Georgia Hiscox (Bachelor of Education), Jack Witts (Certificate III Engineering and Fabrication), Billy Witts (Certificate III Engineering and Fabrication), Nicholas Tedim (Bachelor of Paramedicine) and Clancy Barry (Certificate IV in Vet Nursing).
