In the wake of the recent federal election, Jamie Chaffey’s victory in the Parkes electorate has been hailed as a remarkable achievement for the Nationals, especially given the wider trend toward the Labor Party in other parts of the country.
Despite an eight per cent swing against the Nationals on primary votes in Parkes, Mr Chaffey managed to easily secure the seat, demonstrating his strong local connection and extensive campaign efforts.
Leader of the Nationals David Littleproud said Mr Chaffey’s campaign was a model of hard work and dedication.
Mr Littleproud acknowledged that while the Nationals suffered some losses elsewhere, particularly in the Senate in New South Wales, the Parkes result was a win that should not be overlooked.
“Jamie has shown absolute respect for the job Mark Coulton undertook as the previous member for Parkes,” Mr Littleproud said.
“He door-knocked over 25,000 homes in the Parkes electorate, which speaks volumes about his commitment to the people here.”
