Lightning Ridge has once again proven its prowess as a thriving outback hub, successfully hosting the 2025 Women’s Black Opal Triples lawn bowls tournament from July 3rd to 5th.

The three-day event drew 28 teams from various states and regions, all competing for a substantial $12,225 prize pool.

The significant prize money acted as a strong drawcard, attracting talented female bowlers from across the country to try their hand at the titles. Women from both near and afar descended upon the opal-famous town , contributing to a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.

During a visit by 2 Web and The Western Herald on Saturday, the atmosphere was a vibrant mix of intense competition and joyful competition. Laughter and friendly banter filled the air, reinforcing the events aim as a well-loved fixture on the bowls calendar.

Scott Bailey, CEO of the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club, expressed immense pride in his club’s efforts.

“This has been a massive success, spanning three days of top-tier competition and competitors all around for an incredible community spirit,” Mr. Bailey stated, extending his gratitude to the club’s dedicated sponsors, diligent staff, and, of course, all the enthusiastic participants who made the event truly special.
