Brewarrina Races postponed, not cancelled
Rain fell at Brewarrina last week and the Brewarrina Races – along with the Bourke Show had to be abandoned on the weekend.
The highly anticipated Brewarrina ‘Cod Cup’ was supposed to have taken place on Saturday, but instead of the track being filled with a roaring crowd, charging horses, and the scent of meat pies and spilt beer, it was saturated with rain, mud, with a few workmen in gumboots battling the elements.
“The day would have been fantastic,” Senior Vice President of the Brewarrina Jockey Club, Tim Slack-Smith, sighed as he looked out over the field, which resembled more of a swimming pool than a racetrack.
“We were all set and primed; there’s been a lot of hard work up here; everything has changed, new turf and facilities, so if we only had a bit of sunlight, we were ready to go.
