Brewarrina Races 18 May 2024 – Bre Races to go ahead this year, after 2023 cancellation

After last year’s debacle which saw the Brewarrina Cup Races cancelled on the day of the event, the local race committee has been working overtime to ensure the track is ready for this year’s race day, scheduled for Saturday May 18.

Brewarrina Race Club President, Tim Slack-Smith said the community had been devastated last year when stewards from Racing NSW cancelled the annual event shortly before the horses were due to jump.

In preparation for this year, committee members are determined to iron out any problems well in advance, but communications with Racing NSW have not been smooth sailing.

“Racing NSW have had about 10 months to get back to us with anything that needed changing for this year’s race and kept telling us a report is coming,” Mr Slack-Smith said.

“Then a few weeks ago we got a three- or four-page report listing all the things we need to do, including new fencing, barriers, and track preparation. We have a fair bit of work to do and not a lot of time to do it.” […]
