Brewarrina lands Council leads by example

As Reconciliation Australia prepares itself for the upcoming Indigenous Government Awards, the Brewarrina Local Aboriginal Lands Council (LALC) is once again receiving high praise for its pioneering work in the sector.

The Indigenous Governance Awards (IGA) are held every two years and celebrate outstanding achievements in governance within Indigenous communities across Australia.

In 2022, Brewarrina LALC was chosen as the ‘best of the best’ at the IGA awards hosted in Sydney.

Brewarrina LALC CEO, John Reidy said the experience of winning the award changed everything for the organisation.

“After being in administration for years, there was a lack of faith from funding bodies and potential partners in our organisation’s capacity for financial management, but once we won the award, everything changed,” Mr Reidy said. […]
