Brewarrina Council wins Workplace Award

Brewarrina Shire Council has won an award for a program promoting better relationships between management and on-the-ground workers.

Human Resources Manager, Tara Byrnes is behind the Back in Blue initiative which picked up the prestigious award.

Ms Byrnes said more important than the award is what has happened in the Brewarrina Shire Council workforce because of the scheme – a happier team.

“The Workplace Culture Award acknowledges the great work in relation to our culture at the Brewarrina Council,” Tara said.

“The initiative came out of the workplace health and safety committee. We discussed issues with workers around managerial staff not fully comprehending what is happening on the ground.

“The idea actually came from the television show called Undercover Boss. In that setting it’s about out of touch CEOs who don’t know what’s happening in the field.
